5 X How to maintain a healthy lifestyle
This year, health seems to be more important than ever before. So let's talk about this topic in a bit more detail and explore the ways of staying healthy and how to strengthen your immune system. Everybody is unique, has a lifestyle of their own, enjoys different types of workouts and have different eating habbits. Let's go through the top 5 of healthy lifestyle tips. Of course lots of factors play a role in staying healthy, but surely these tips can help you to stimulate and maintain a healthy lifestyle, and therefore decrease your risk of developing certain conditions.
1. Eat healthy.
Your eating habits are closely linked to your health. Healthy eating habits include eating a variety of foods, consuming enough vitamins, minerals, proteine and carbs. Your body needs to receive enough fuel to keep you going! Be sure to include plenty of vegetables in your diet and don't forget about those yummy fruits! By making healthier food choices, you can prevent yourself from diseases and stimulate a healthy weight and cholesterol level. Ensure to eat regularly and keep an eye on the amount of sugar and salt.
2. Excercise regularly.
Let's get moving! Excersing strenghtens your body, can make you feel better and will help you to keep your weight under control. It can help treating and even preventing certain diseases like diabetes, strokes and heart diseases. Obviously any amount of excercising would be better than none, but generally we would recommend to be active for about 30 to 60 minutes, 5 times a week. Wether you enjoy playing tennis, prefer running or would rather go to the gym, the type of workout is all up to you!
3. Drink lots of fluid.
Generally, adults need to drink about 1,5 litres of fluids a day minimum. During a hot day or if you are physically active, your body will need more than just 1,5 litres. In any case, water is the best source and try to limit fluids that contain a high amount of sugar. So less sugar, more water!
4. Don't smoke and moderate your alcohol consumption.
Smoking is bad for your health, period. Smoking is a harmful habit and can cause heart diseases, mouth, throat or lung cancer along many other diseases. The sooner you would quit, the better for your health. Or even better: don't start smoking to begin with. Next to smoking, we live in a society where many of us enjoy a glass of wine or a beer every once in a while. That's okay if you ask us, but make sure to moderate your alcohol consumption. Too much of anything isn't good in general, but too much alcohol consumption could damage your liver.
5. Sleep.
Make sure to get enough rest, as sleep is also one of the keys to a good health. Did you know chronic sleep deprivation raises the risk of e.g. heart diseases and diabetes? Don't cheat your sleep and make sure your body receives the amount of rest it needs. While sleeping, your body recovers and immune system improves. In average, adults need about 8 hours of sleep per night. Try to get 7 - 9 hours of rest on a daily basis and you will not only feel better rested, but will also become healthier.
A balanced lifestyle is generally the key to a good health if you would ask us. We understand you want to have a little cheatday every once in a while, enjoy a second glass of wine or you are want to skip your workout to go out with friends or just Netflix and chill. That's okay. But make sure to maintain a good balance in your diet and lifestyle. Eat sensibly, excercise regularly, get enough rest and live a healthy life!
